Machine Gun Kelly (MGK)

Known For:
Blending hip-hop and rock, high-energy performances, and chart-topping hits like “Bad Things” and “My Ex’s Best Friend.”

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Before hitting the stage, MGK burns champa incense to set the vibe. He’s super easygoing and cool to work with backstage — but once the show starts, security tightens up fast due to the crowd energy and his rising fame.

Afroman

His laid-back West Coast vibe and iconic hits like “Because I Got High” and “Crazy Rap (Colt 45 & 2 Zig Zags).”

Currently Trending:
Back in the spotlight following a viral incident involving law enforcement and his track “Lemon Pound Cake,” which sparked major online attention and conversation.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Afroman is incredibly fun on camera and knows exactly how to put on a great show. His personality is naturally funny, which makes working with him a good time all around. I’d definitely like to work with him again and build more of a connection beyond just the shoot.

Waka Flocka Flame

Known For:
High-energy trap anthems like “No Hands” and “Hard in da Paint,” along with his wild stage presence and crowd engagement.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Waka Flocka was the second celebrity I ever worked with, and he was extremely open-minded and down to earth. I got the chance to hang out with him backstage, learn some real industry advice as a new event photographer, and even do a quick photoshoot before the show.

That Mexican OT

Breakout hit “Johnny Dang” (feat. Paul Wall & DRODi), along with his Texas-style flow, strong personality, and rapidly growing fanbase. He’s quickly moving into that B-list level with packed shows and high crowd energy.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Very fun on stage and easy to work with. He’s not afraid to intermingle with opening talent and connects well with his fans, which really shows in his performances. One thing that stood out — he takes hydration seriously and stays on top of it throughout the night.

DRODi

A rising Texas hip-hop artist closely connected with That Mexican OT, building momentum through high-energy performances and a strong presence in the Southern rap scene.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I’ve worked with DRODi twice within a year. He’s extremely tall, which actually works in his favor when it comes to commanding a crowd. He’s very down to earth and even reposted some of my photos, which I respect. He’s got a strong personality and presence, and I’m looking forward to working with him a third time.

He brings a raw, unfiltered energy to the stage and isn’t afraid to fully be himself in front of a crowd.

Chris Webby

Known For:
Independent hip-hop success, rapid-fire lyricism, and tracks like “Raw Thoughts” and “La La La.” Known for building a strong fanbase without major label backing.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I covered Chris Webby’s performance while working the event. Even though I didn’t get the chance to connect with him directly due to an ankle injury and focusing on other coverage that night, his stage presence stood out. He connects really well with the crowd, and a few of his songs hit in a way that made me an instant fan — especially relating to the high-energy, ADHD-style delivery in his music.

King Iso

Being one of the standout artists on Strange Music, along with his fast-paced lyricism, emotional depth, and strong focus on mental health in his music. Notable tracks include “World War Me” and “Help Yourself.”

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I really enjoyed capturing King Iso’s performance. He brings a powerful presence to the stage, especially when it comes to mental health — it’s not just music, it’s a message. His performance actually opened my mind to looking at my own mental health in a different way and understanding his perspective more.

One day, I’d love to sit down and interview him to learn more about his journey and how he connects mental health with his music.

Hopsin

Known For:
Founding Funk Volume, his “Ill Mind of Hopsin” series, and a unique style that blends raw lyricism with creative visuals and storytelling.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Hopsin is someone I connected with quickly — it honestly felt like being around a friend in a short amount of time. I was a little starstruck at first, just because I had watched so many of his music videos growing up.

My first interaction with him was actually catching him skateboarding behind the stage. He pulled off a random trick, rolled up, and introduced himself — super natural, no ego. That moment stuck with me.

Out of all the artists there, he was one I knew a lot of songs from, even while I was still learning professional concert photography. I ended up capturing a really crisp, standout image of him that I still look back on.

DJ Whoo Kid

Known For:
Legendary mixtapes, collaborations with major hip-hop artists, and his signature “Whoo Kid” drops. Also widely recognized for his presence on SiriusXM, where his voice has become a staple in hip-hop radio.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I met DJ Whoo Kid through Waka Flocka Flame, and it was a very personal moment for me. I had been a fan of his mixtapes for years and had heard his voice countless times during my travels on SiriusXM. Finally being able to match the voice to the person in real life was surreal.

At the time, I was still new in the industry, but he was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. What surprised him was that I was a fan of his work in a deeper way — not just the surface-level recognition, but really understanding the impact of what he’s done in the culture.

Pauly D

His role on Jersey Shore, high-energy DJ performances, and building a major presence in both reality TV and nightlife entertainment.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Pauly D was someone I worked around during the early part of my career. He runs a very tight and professional setup — when it’s time for him to step into the booth, he prefers the stage and back area to be completely cleared so everything is dialed in exactly how he wants it.

What stood out to me is the contrast. After his performance, during meet and greets, he becomes much more laid-back. Not as loud as you might expect from TV — more polite, calm, and respectful. Even with his strict standards, he was still genuinely nice to me personally.

Mýa

Known For:
R&B hits like “Case of the Ex” and “My Love Is Like… Wo,” along with her strong dance background and energetic stage performances.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
Mýa was one of the early well-known artists I worked with — and the first well-known woman I worked with in the music scene. She was extremely fun to capture and brought a lot of energy to the stage, performing alongside her dancers while keeping the crowd engaged the entire time.

Struggle Jennings

Known For:
Blending country and hip-hop with a raw, outlaw style. Notable songs include “Fall in the Fall” and “Outlaw Shit.” He’s also widely recognized for his close collaborations and friendship with Jelly Roll.
He comes from a legendary background as the grandson of Waylon Jennings and the nephew of Shooter Jennings.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I met Struggle Jennings through Bubba Sparxxx at an event I was photographing. What stood out to me right away was how he motivates the crowd — pushing people to believe in themselves, put in the work, and not let anything stop them. Hearing his story about prison and how it made him stronger and more self-aware really built a lot of respect for him on my end.

I became an instant fan after that. He’s very down to earth — I still remember shaking his hand, firm grip, real energy. There were a couple close opportunities to work with him again, but COVID ended up getting in the way. Hopefully I’ll cross paths with him again someday.

He’s also one of those Southern artists I’ll throw on during long drives, especially heading to Florida or going through tough times — the kind of music that helps reset your mindset

Jarren Benton

His time with Funk Volume, aggressive lyricism mixed with humor, and tracks like “Skitzo” and “Lean.”

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I first worked with Jarren Benton during one of his last tours with Funk Volume. He was super fun on camera — I still remember him rocking a raccoon hat with big shades. Very down to earth, just moving around backstage like it was another normal day.

About 10 years later, I reunited with him. We ended up talking, got a hug, and took some photos together — it was a real full-circle moment. His style evolved a bit, but he’s still the same person at his core. If anything, he’s even more open now — bringing fans on stage to party with him and just being chill about everything.

As I was heading out, he told me, “I’ll see you in 10 years.” I told him, “Let’s make it shorter this time.” He laughed and walked off.

Dizzy Wright

Known For:
Being a core artist from Funk Volume, along with his smooth flow, positive messages, and projects like “The Golden Age.”

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I worked around Dizzy Wright during the Funk Volume era, and what stood out most is how humble he is. Very down to earth — simple white tee, dad hat, no extra flash.

He carries himself so casually that he could walk through a crowd and most people wouldn’t even realize who he is. The photo I captured of him really reflects that — just natural, low-key, and real.

Bubba Sparxxx

Known For:
Southern hip-hop rooted in Georgia culture, with mainstream recognition from “Ms. New Booty” and a deeper catalog that reflects country rap and real-life storytelling.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
To me, Bubba Sparxxx is way bigger than just “Ms. New Booty.” He really brings out that Southern charm of Georgia — hardworking, authentic country rap energy. He’s very down to earth and connected through mutual friends and clients in my circle.

I’m personally a big fan of his newer music, especially his collaboration with Dusty Leigh, who I’ve worked with. Tracks like “Y.G.M.F.U.” and “Put In Work” stand out to me.

Honestly, he’s the type of person I’d sit down with for barbecue and sweet tea — just real, genuine energy.

James Duval

Roles in iconic films like Donnie Darko, Independence Day, and Gone in 60 Seconds, along with a strong presence in independent cinema.

Why He’s in the Music Section:
Beyond acting, James Duval is a talented musician — playing guitar and piano, writing music, and performing in more private or creative settings rather than mainstream stages.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
James is someone I consider a personal friend. Working with him wasn’t just about photography — it was about real connection. He carries a strong creative energy, and even though most people recognize him for film, his musical talent is something not everyone gets to see. That’s part of why I wanted to include him here — it shows another side of who he is.

Mickey Avalon

Known For:
West Coast hip-hop with a raw, unfiltered style, and tracks like “Jane Fonda” and “My Dick.” Known for blending humor, storytelling, and edgy content into his music.

Fun Fact (From Experience):
I photographed Mickey Avalon at a show hosted and DJ’d by Donny Dahl. He’s a very unique and interesting artist, and his vibe honestly made me a little homesick for California — reminded me of people I grew up around.

His performance is fun and engaging, and while his music can be graphic, he’s actually very respectful, especially toward the women on stage. He even sets clear expectations about respect for the dancers. Toward the end of his set, he invites the crowd on stage — whether to dance or sing along — and turns the whole moment into a shared experience where everyone becomes part of the act.
